LAKE WYLIE

Lake Wylie is located 18 miles south of Uptown Charlotte and it borders both NC and SC.  It has 325 miles of shore line, has an average depth of just over 20 feet, and is about 40% the size or Lake Norman, a neighboring lake north of Charlotte.

Boating, water skiing, fishing and sailing are frequently enjoyed on the lake.

Lake Wylie is a little less built up than some parts of Lake Norman to the north, so it offers fewer shopping/dining experiences.

These cities/towns present great opportunities to live on or near Lake Wylie:

• Charlotte – on the southwest side of the city and an easy commute uptown or to the airport. Schools are Charlotte Mecklenburg.

• Belmont, NC – located in Gaston County on the northwest part of Lake Wylie, is a small town with a small town feel, but it has many restaurants and is convenient to I-85, making commuting to Charlotte very manageable. School system is Gaston County.

• Tega Cay, SC – is a planned community, located on a peninsula, 20 miles SW of uptown Charlotte and 5 miles north of Rock Hill. It has a 27 hole golf course and lighted tennis courts. The school district is mostly Fort Mill, which is the most sought after school system serving the Lake Wylie area.

• Lake Wylie – is a peninsula just across the NC border that you reach by crossing the Buster Boyd Bridge. One of the larger neighborhoods is River Hill, which has a golf course, and you can see some homes with the links to the right. The school district is Clover. 

Lake Wylie also serves as a home for many commuters in Charlotte, Fort Mill, SC and Rock Hill, SC.
