Cornelius

Cornelius is located along Lake Norman in northern Mecklenburg County, 17 miles north of Uptown Charlotte and 25 miles from the Charlotte airport. It is one of 3 north Mecklenburg towns serving the Charlotte suburbs, along with Huntersville and Davidson.

Originally, cotton spurred Cornelius’ growth, but by far the largest growth impetus was the creation of Lake Norman in 1963 by Duke Power, which created hydroelectric power and gave Cornelius 70 miles of choice shoreline.

Cornelius boasts some of the nicest and most expensive lake homes in the area and is home to many professional athletes and corporate executives. One of the nicest private clubs is The Peninsula Club, located on 11miles of shoreline, and is the center of the Peninsula community – one of the most exclusive
in metro Charlotte.

More modest home options checker the area and one of the more affordable lakefront neighborhoods is Bahia Bay.

Restaurants are plentiful and Northlake Mall is only a few miles south of Cornelius.

Charlotte Mecklenburg school system provides public education and private schools include Davidson Day School and Lake Norman Christian.
